Garage Door Panel Replacement
in Massachusetts.

Replace one damaged section instead of the whole door, when the maker still makes a match. Panel replacement runs $500-$1,500 supplied and installed; a cracked or bowed section can often be held straight with a strut or bracket instead, and a door with several damaged sections gets a new-door price to compare before anything is ordered.

What garage door panel replacement costs

Of the 70 invoiced jobs listed on this site, two were work on a damaged door section, and each one was repaired in place rather than replaced. Another eight jobs, invoiced as repairs, put a reinforcement strut, bracket or angle iron on a door that stayed in service: the usual first answer to a section that has cracked or bowed.

The first price below is for one new section from the door's maker, fitted in place of the damaged one. Whether a matching section can still be had for your door is the first thing to settle, and the panel replacement guide shows how to check that from the label inside the door before anything is ordered. What a section is, and when a strut does the job instead, is further down this page.

Panel (section) replacement
$500-$1,500
One new section, supplied and installed. The written price follows once the section is identified and its availability confirmed.
Emergency call
$300 minimum
Emergency calls are $300 minimum, which covers the visit and the repair up to $300; a bigger repair costs the same as it would scheduled.

Ranges come from our 2026 price list, set from Jobber invoices and accepted quotes. Each range is for that job done on its own. You get the exact price in writing before any work starts. The two new-door prices are read from the same data as the Door Builder, across every Amarr collection, so they match what it shows.

Sections

A section, a strut, or a new door

What gets replaced: a section, not a panel

A sectional door is four or five horizontal sections, hinged to each other, with a roller at each end of every section running in the tracks. The rectangles stamped into the face are the panel design, not separate parts: the replacement part is a whole section, the full width of the door, and the hinges and rollers move over to it.

The bottom section carries the bottom brackets the lift cables hook to and the floor seal; the top section carries the opener arm bracket. Both are different parts from the sections between them, which is why the label inside the door, with the model and the manufacturing date, is the first thing to photograph.

Strut, bracket or new section

A section that is cracked, bowed or pulling away from a hinge, but still in one piece, can usually be held straight with a horizontal reinforcement strut across its full width or a bracket at the hinge. That keeps the door in service on the visit, with no part to order and no color to match. On eight invoiced jobs, in Chelmsford, Fitchburg, Andover and Arlington, that was the repair.

A section that is torn, creased through, rusted through along the bottom or no longer holds its shape needs replacing. A cracked top section also needs its cause found: the usual ones are an opener pulling on a section with no strut, a door out of balance, or a close limit set so the opener keeps pushing after the door is down. Replacing the section without that check sets up the next crack.

What replacing a section involves

For a bottom section, the lift cables hook to its brackets, so the spring tension is released first and the cables unhooked before the section comes out. The new section goes in with the bottom brackets and a new floor seal, the cables go back on, the springs are re-tensioned and the door is balanced. That is also why the bottom brackets must never be unbolted on a door that is still under spring tension.

For a middle or top section, the door is run to where the section can be reached, the hinges and rollers come off it, the section slides out of the tracks and the new one slides in. Last comes the opener's reversing test, so a door with a new section stops when it should.

When a new door is the better buy

Three cases: the maker no longer makes a section for the door, more than one section is damaged, or the door is an old single-layer steel door whose other sections are not far behind. For comparison, panel replacement runs $500-$1,500 and a new single-car door installed runs $1,578-$7,980; a new door comes with new hardware, new seals and a warranty.

Installed prices for every Amarr collection, by size, are in the Door Builder, and the written quote matches it. The full comparison is in when to repair or replace a garage door.

What you notice

Dent, crack, rot, or a car

A car or something else hit the door
If the door is crooked, binds or will not close, stop using the opener and leave it where it is; the tracks, hinges, rollers and cables get checked along with the section. A dent at bumper height often takes the vertical track with it: see track repair and off-track repair.
A crack across a section, or the door bows when the opener pulls
Usually a strut or bracket repair, priced above. If the crack is in the top section at the opener bracket, the opener force and limits get checked on the same visit (opener repair).
The bottom section is rusting or rotting at the floor
Water and road salt sit along the bottom edge all winter. A bottom section is replaced with new bottom brackets and a new floor seal; if the vertical tracks have rusted at the floor too, see track repair.
A dent the door runs fine with
Cosmetic. The choice is to leave it or replace the section for looks, and a new section can look different from the weathered ones beside it, because colors fade.
Several sections damaged, or the door is old
Compare a new door before ordering parts: price yours in the Door Builder, and both prices come in writing.

"I highly recommend Eric, we had him fix our garage door few months ago, recently we were having some issues with it. I called Eric on the weekend and he immediately answered the phone, and came within an hour to our place to fix it. I was extremely impressed about how responsive and thorough professional Eric is."
Basharat Sheikh Google Review · Aug 2025
"Eric was able to help me out on a super cold Monday holiday recently. He was able to diagnose my issue and get my garage door working again. Price was fair and he was very good at providing some insight into things to keep an eye on moving forward. I'll definitely keep him on speed dial for whatever I run into next."
Bob North Attleborough, MA · Jan 2025
"Our technician Eric came on time gave a more fair price then we were previously quoted from another company and did the job quickly and thoroughly and now our door is working better then ever (even got rid of that annoying clicking noise we used to have)."

Quick answers before you call.

Can you replace just one damaged garage door section?

Sometimes. It works when a compatible section is still made for your door, the same maker, model, size and design, and the rest of the door is sound. A photo of the manufacturer label inside the door helps check that. A new section can also look different from older, weathered ones, because colors fade. How to check before anything is ordered: tips/garage door panel replacement.

How much does garage door panel replacement cost?

Panel replacement runs $500-$1,500, depending on the door and the section. You get the written price before anything is ordered. If the section is no longer made, or several are damaged, compare a new door: installed prices for every Amarr collection are in the Door Builder at garage doors.

Can a dented or cracked section be repaired instead?

Sometimes. A section that is cracked or bent but still in one piece can often be reinforced with a strut or bracket, which avoids ordering a part and the color match. A section that is torn, badly creased or no longer holds its shape needs replacing.
